The name of the county, Sancheong, means a clean mountain. Just like the auspicious meaning of the name, Sancheong is the area of purity and the blessed place which has adapted itself to nature from ancient times, thus leading to abundant life in the bosom of Nature.
Located on the northwest of Gyeongnam, Sancheong is adjacent to Hapcheon and Euiryeong on the east, Hamyang and Hadong on the west, Jinju on the south and Geochang on the north. Sancheong stretches 38.8 km from east to west and 40.3km from north to south, being surrounded by the high mountains. Cheonwangbong Peak of the Jirisan Mountain Ridge makes the western border with Hadong County and Hamyang County and Mt. Hwangmaesan, the branch of Mt. Baekunsan, makes the border with Hapcheon County. Gyeonghogang River flows through Hamyang from north to south and meets Yangcheongang River from Mt. Hwangmaesan in Danseong-myeon. The river again meets Deokcheongang River flowing from Mt. Jirisan and makes Namgang River. |
